Inner Fight

by FreddieUnlimited

This is the final story in the Project Unlimited series titled: “Forgiveness: Who Do You Think You Are?” Inmates at Tomoka Correctional Institution wrote these stories, not to justify or excuse behaviors, but for the purpose of educating and increasing awareness. You’re welcomed and encouraged to send questions for consideration for the Unlimited men to answer throughout this series. To learn more about Project Unlimited click here.

Angry. Sad. Mad. Glad.

I smile. I frown.
It’s like I’m about to drown.

I look in the mirror
at a reflection of a man I clearly see
but don’t always recognize the face is me,
pain and suffering of a loss so great
wishing I could turn back the clock of fate.

The way I feel at times, it’s hard to explain.
So I just say nothing, hold it in and hang my head in shame.

Momma!!!
I could have been a better son.
Done better and more for you.

I say this today.

I just wish I had another chance to say,
“I love you” to your face.
“Please forgive me if you hear me.”
Lord knows my heart still aches.

I need to end now
because the pain is just too great.

The Fourfold Path to Forgiveness

  1. Tell the Story.
  2. Name the Hurt.
  3. Grant Forgiveness.
  4. Renew or Release the Relationship.

as discussed in The Book of Forgiving by Desmond Tutu and Mpho Tutu
